How can God use a bunch of dropouts (scraps), rejected by their communities and turn them into David’s mighty men? (Vs. 2 of today’s scripture). That’s God for you. He took a murderer called Moses, who was a wanted man (fugitive scrap), and made him a mighty prophet. He chose Jephthah, an illegitimate son without an inheritance (special scrap), and turned him into a mighty man to deliver a whole nation. He chose a man called Jacob who could best be described, as a “special area boy” and “consultant liar” and turned him to be the grandfather of the promised Messiah. God will turn you into a tourist attraction in this year 2023!
Don’t give up on your stubborn kids, delayed prayer answers, business delay, career battles, ministry stagnation, school discouragement, or spouse etc as scraps. God can turn the scraps into stars! Do you know that scrap vehicle tyres are being turned into valuable oils? Yes! Dr Paul Williams in the Department of Fuel and Energy at the University of Leeds, Northern England has improved on a basic and largely ignored technique called “PYROLYSIS” to turn tyres into a mixture of valuable chemicals, oils, gases, carbon and steel cords. Tyres break down in this way when they are heated without oxygen. Scrap papers are recycled and turned to toilet rolls. Crude gases are now being turned into liquefied natural gases. If men can turn waste to wealth, can’t God do more? Ah!
God too can turn any scrap into a star! Don’t look down on yourself! Don’t compare yourself to others! Also, in this year 2023, stop looking down on others! Never give up on ANYBODY! Don’t give up on friends, pastors, family, etc. LOOK FOR THOSE BEING GOSSIPED ABOUT OR OPPRESSED and be an encouragement to them! The best is yet to come for you and for them. As you go out today, consider David’s mighty men. They were society scraps, dropouts, divorcees, murderers, ex-convicts, robbers, abortion specialists, failures, debtors, etc. Close with this: If men can turn waste to wealth, can’t God do more? Indeed, He can and will do more!
