TOPIC: HE WAS ANOINTED THREE TIMES – 1
One of the mysterious QUESTIONS of the Bible is: “WHY WAS DAVID ANOINTED THREE TIMES BEFORE HE COULD SIT ON HIS THRONE AS THE KING OF ISRAEL? God could have anointed Him JUST ONCE and endue him with authority; BUT HE DID NOT! Why does God pass us through the PROCESS of pain, delay, waiting and sometimes, tears before giving us the PROMISED LAND?
It is indeed true that before he became king of Judah and Israel, David was anointed three times: (1.) 1 Samuel 16:13: David was anointed to become king of Israel in the place of King Saul who had been rejected by God. (2.) 2 Samuel 2:4: David was anointed to be king of Judah by the men of Judah. (3.) 2 Samuel 5:3:David was anointed to be accepted as king of Israel by the elders of Israel.
The first anointing can be termed as the anointing of appointment by the Lord God by using His prophet Samuel. It was intended to kick start David on the way to be king. However though, David who had been a BUSH BOY – a sheep keeper, needed to undergo a process of training to be a king in many areas such as character, etc. The second anointing had been by the men of Judah for him to become their king. Remember that in Genesis 49:8-12, Judah was blessed to rule over his brothers until the coming of Jesus the CHRIST!
Oh, the ways of God! Exodus 23: 29 says – “I will not drive them out before you in a single year; otherwise the land would become desolate and wild animals would multiply against you.” God takes His time and allows some failures, delay, etc, so that the WILD ANIMALS OF LIFE will not consume you at last!
